VW, Seat and more – These brands should rather swap their infotainments for Apple CarPlay Ultra

Apple's new CarPlay, Apple CarPlay Ultra, will initially be used by Aston Martin and will replace numerous functions in the infotainment. As good as it looks, some other manufacturers should also rather rely on Apple.

Apple CarPlay Ultra made waves when it was unveiled in mid-May, after all, the upgrade looks fantastic. Unfortunately, it is initially limited to the niche brand Aston Martin and there again to the USA and Canada.

The full integration of CarPlay into the car promises not only faster and clearer infotainment, but also easier operation and more personalization. Together with the navigation and multimedia functions we are already familiar with, Apple's new CarPlay actually does everything we want. While Aston Martin already has CarPlay Ultra and Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are reportedly planning to use the new interface, there are still some manufacturers who should also rely on Apple.

Apple CarPlay Ultra as a solution for Volkswagen?

Volkswagen, as well as the entire Volkswagen Group, are the first candidates that came to mind. After all, the manufacturer from Wolfsburg has been notorious for error-prone infotainment at least since the failed infotainment system in the first generations of the ID series or the pre-facelift of the Golf 8.

Abstürze, flimmernde Bildschirme oder defekte Assistenzsysteme und defektes Radio sind nur eine Auswahl der zahlreichen Probleme, die bei den neuen Fahrzeugen des Volkswagen Konzerns immer wieder auftreten. Manchmal hilft ein Neustart, manchmal bleibt nur der Gang zur Werkstatt, die aber auch nicht immer schnell die Probleme beheben kann. Die Probleme bei der Elektronik sind mittlerweile so schlimm, dass so manche neue Modellvorstellung verschoben werden musste, da die Software nicht mitspielte.

Erst letztes Jahr hat VW scheinbar kapituliert vor der Mammutaufgabe und das eigene Software-Team eingestampft und stattdessen viel Geld in eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem amerikanischen Startup Rivian investiert. Als eine der zahlreichen neuen E-Auto-Marken soll die zukünftige Software des Volkswagen Konzerns jetzt aus den USA kommen. Aber bis es soweit ist, sollte VW mit all seinen Marken über eine tiefere Einbindung von Apples neuem CarPlay Ultra nachdenken. Die Lösung ist schließlich schon marktreif und muss nur implementiert werden. 

Wenn es schon für Aston Martin reicht, sollte Mercedes-Benz sich nicht sträuben

Aston Martin punktet als Premium-Marke nun als erste mit Zugriff auf die neuen Funktionen und das frische Design von Apple CarPlay Ultra. Zuvor nutzte es veraltete Mercedes-Software, die definitiv aus der Zeit gefallen war. Erst letztes Jahr hatte Mercedes-Chef Ola Källenius sich skeptisch gegenüber der Idee von Apple CarPlay Ultra gezeigt, aber die gezeigte Implementation bei den Briten von Aston Martin lässt eigentlich kaum Kritikpunkte offen.

These brands will get Apple CarPlay Ultra

In contrast to the majority of German brands, some manufacturers have already decided to work on integrating the new Apple CarPlay into their vehicles. Among others, the Koreans from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, but also other larger brands such as Ford, Renault or Volvo. It remains to be seen whether other brands will also decide to further develop their often technically outdated systems and prefer to accept ready-made solutions, but some manufacturers would like to see it very much
